A FIFA from 1975 to 1990, Michel Vautrot's CV reads like a history of modern football. At club level he refereed five French cup finals, five European cup semi-finals and one final, as well as the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo in 1983. However, it is as an international referee that he was best known, with 47 matches to his credit, including appearances at the 1984 and 1988 European Championships and in 1982 and 1990 World Cups, where he was the referee for the Italy-Argentina semi-final in Naples. A native of the Jura region of eastern France, Michel Vautrot has been recognized for the consistent excellence of his performances at the highest level, not only by FIFA and the Hall of Champions, but also by a host of other football and municipal bodies. Today he is a member of several referees committees, including that of FIFA. |
